From the Farm to Pike Place: A Seattle Summer
The herbs are growing. The visitors are arriving. And the deer are trying to eat everything.
It’s peak summer here at Sister Sage Herbs, and life is busy in two very different places.
Out on the farm, the calendula is bright and beautiful, the nettles are thriving, and the valerian is doing its thing. These are some of the plants that eventually make their way into the herbal products we bring to Pike Place Market. There’s something pretty wonderful about watching an herb grow in the soil and knowing where its journey will take it.
Of course, the deer also know something good is growing! We’ve been working on improvements to the farm road, fence, and gate and doing our best to convince our four-legged neighbors that Sister Sage is not an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Meanwhile, Pike Place Market has had an incredible summer.
With FIFA World Cup games in Seattle, soccer watch parties, cruise ships arriving, and visitors coming from all over the world, the Market has been buzzing. We love being part of it. Pike Place is our hub, and we take pride in being good ambassadors for Seattle—whether we're talking about herbs or helping someone figure out what to explore next.
And Seattle's waterfront has become something pretty special.
If you're visiting, take the new Overlook Walk from Pike Place down toward the water. It's absolutely worth it. And if you have a little more time, hop on the passenger ferry over to West Seattle. Seeing the city from the water is one of our favorite ways to experience Seattle.
Mostly, though, we just want to say thank you.
Thank you to our longtime Seattle customers, our neighbors, and everyone who has wandered up to our booth while exploring Pike Place for the first time. We appreciate every conversation and every person who chooses to support a small, local herbal business.
If you're visiting Seattle this summer, come find us at Pike Place Market and say hello.
And tell us where you're visiting from—we'd love to hear your story.
